Employee
self service ( ESS) is a combination of technology and organizational change
that allow the employee to access their personal record, own account, payroll
detail and also request their own holiday leave online. It also allowed the employee to access their
data, and act upon the transaction that occurred in the workplace.
Through
the ESS employee and also the customer can access the information and do the
task over internet without interact with the representative of the
organization. Therefore it enables the
communication across the organization been carried out effectively. Other than that, it also can increase the
efficiency and also provide a better employee services.
Furthermore
it also beneficial for the employee.
This is because through the ESS manager can access the employee record and
used the information. The uses of ESS
can help the employee to access it easily because they can access it every day
at anywhere they are. Thus, it gives accommodation to the employee and employer
who do not have opportunity to access it anytime they want.
Moreover,
there are three types of self-service application which are internet, intranet
and interactive voice response. However,
commonly been used is the internet and intranet. The organization can choose either to used
internet or intranet. Employee can uses
the intranet to access the self-service through the connection from computer to
another computer network in company.
Therefore, intranet access is denial from outside. Thus, it can ensure that there will be no
hacker to intrude the information in the computer. Employee can access it through their own
desktop or computer in organization.
Differently
from intranet, internet allowed the employee to access the ESS from
everywhere. It is a way where employee
can communicate with other employee at another country. Usually company will use firewall to prevent
the intruder. Other than that, employer
also implements the security protocol when using the internet. This is to ensure the safety of the
information. Therefore, organization must decide the best types of self-service
to be implemented in their organization.
In
addition, there are many benefits that employee and manager can get from the
self-service. As been said earlier
employee can access their personal information, submit holiday request online
and plan their own duty roster.
Meanwhile manager can use it in order to give or decline the employee
holiday request, record employee absences and view the report for forecasting.
